Should You Olaplex Before Your Keratin Treatment>?
Being a hair stylist in New York City , doing Brazilian and Keratin treatments almost comes second nature to hairdressers because they are in such high demand. . One of the biggest questions I repeatedly get when I’m consulting with a new client is if the Olaplex treatment will damage the hair. The answer is NO. If you go to a stylist that is experienced with smoothing treatments (Brazilians and Keratins) they will know how not to ruin the health of your hair.
So how does it work? I apply Olaplex No. 1 Bond Multiplier with one ounce of solution and six ounces of water to clean, dry hair for the best results (hair can be towel dried as well). If the hair is extremely dry and fragile, I mix half and half and let sit for five minutes.
Then, I layer Olaplex No. 2 Bond Perfector directly on top of step one and leave on for a minimum of 10 minutes–the longer you leave it on the more beneficial it is. After the treatment is done, I clarify the hair twice. And just in case you were thinking it, no, the Olaplex doesn’t block the smoothing treatment from working. Using Olaplex as a pre-treatment it makes the hair less knotted and matted versus shampooing the client with no pre-treatment.
If you are not familiar to Olaplex, it’s know to ““reconnect broken disulfide sulfur bonds in the hair.” The treatment is labelled a “bond multiplier” which limits damage from hair color and overall makes the hair healthier before you do your smoothing treatment.
